--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
On new machines, install 136-8879 Front Pull Hook Group (not serviced) to the front and rear of the carbody. The hook group consists of two plates and four gussets that are assembled to form two tow hooks. The hook group is shipped with the machine and must be installed when the machine is assembled using the following procedure.
On existing machines, inspect the welds between the tow hooks and the carbody for cracks. If cracks are found and the tow hooks are installed on top of the horizontal carbody plate as shown in Illustration 3, repair the cracks and grind the weld transitions smooth and flush.
If cracks are found and the tow hooks are installed other than as shown in Illustration 3, remove the tow hooks and reinstall using the following procedure.
Procedure To Install Tow Hooks
1. Clean and remove the paint from the areas at the center front and center rear of the carbody.
2. If necessary, fabricate two 131-5602 Gussets (1) (not serviced) and one 131-5601 Plate (2) (not serviced) for each tow hook. Refer to Illustrations 1 and 2 and Charts 1 and 2.
3. Weld four 131-5602 Gussets (1) (not serviced) and two 131-5601 Plates (2) (not serviced) to the carbody as shown in Illustration 3 and Chart 3. Use E7018 electrode for all welds.
4. Ensure that all weld transitions are ground flush and smooth when required, as shown in Illustration 3 and Chart 3.
5. Clean and repaint the carbody in the weld areas.
