Removal Procedure for the Front Idler and Recoil Spring on CIPI Undercarriage Arrangements which are Based on 330 and 330B Track Type Excavators

Start By:

1. Separate the track assemblies. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate" in this manual.

1. Use the hydraulic track adjuster to extend the front idler and the recoil spring in the undercarriage frame assembly as far as possible.

2. Use a pry bar in order to move the front idler and recoil spring (1) partially out of the undercarriage frame assembly, as shown.

3. Fasten lifting slings and a hoist to the front idler and recoil spring (1), as shown. Slide the front idler and the recoil spring out of the undercarriage frame assembly as a unit. The weight of the unit is 383 kg (845 lb).

4. Rotate the front idler and the recoil spring around 180 degrees. Leave the hoist attached. Install the front idler partially into the undercarriage frame assembly. Leave four bolts (3) exposed.

5. Loosen, but do not remove four bolts (3) at this time.

6. Remove the front idler and the recoil spring from the undercarriage frame assembly.

7. Support the front idler and the recoil spring with a hoist. Remove four bolts (3) that hold the unit together. Separate recoil spring (4) from front idler (2). The weight of the front idler is 208 kg (460 lb). The weight of the recoil spring is 175 kg (385 lb).
