The cab harness needs to be reworked on the products listed below. The existing cab harness can open circuit. You will not be charged for the service performed.

Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.

Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 28Oct2011 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure

1. Turn off the battery disconnect switch. The battery disconnect switch is located inside the service door at the left front part of the machine. Refer to Image1.2.1.

2. The machine ECM harness is located behind the driver?s seat. Remove the 5 screws M6 (L=13) 128-2135, M6 (L=16) 128-2136 and remove covers 327-6486 and 327-6487. Refer to Image1.3.1. Machine ECM harness can be confirmed after the cover is removed. Refer to Image1.3.2.

3. Please confirm the four items as follows. Refer to Image1.4.1.

(1) Confirm fuse base harness is rear side of machine ECM harness.
(2) Confirm harness green tape position is fixed above ladder clip by strap cable.
(3) Confirm harness is tightly fixed by strap and not loose.
(4) Confirm harness does not interfere with machine ECM or ECM bracket.

(Case 1) If four items are not applied, please rework. Proceed to Step 4.

(Case 2) If four items are applied, skip Steps 4-13 and proceed to Step 14.

4. Remove the black and brown ECM Machine connectors. Refer to Image1.5.1.

5. Remove the bracket supporting the service connector. Refer to Image1.6.1.

6. Cut the strap cable fixed to the ladder clip. Refer to Image1.7.1.

7. Inspect all loose harnesses for wire damage. Refer to Image1.8.1.

The damage level of the harness is classified into three cases.

(Case 1-1) In the case of a serious damage, the wire inside the harness can be seen, proceed to Step 8.

(Case 1-2) In the case of a minor damage, the wire inside the harness can not be seen, skip Step 8, and proceed to Step 9.

(Case 1-3) If there is no damage to the harnesses, skip Steps 8-9, proceed to Step 10.

8. Please refer to REHS7215, Special Instruction, "Repair Procedure for Damaged Harness Wiring", ?Type 2 Damage Repair? (Butt Splice). Repair the serious damage. Skip Step 9, proceed to Step 10.
 
9. Please refer to REHS7215, Special Instruction, "Repair Procedure for Damaged Harness Wiring", ?Type 1 Damage Repair?, and repair the minor damage. Proceed to Step 10.
 
10. Layout machine ECM harness to the front side of fuse base harness. Refer to Image1.11.1.

11. Layout machine ECM harness to the front side of fuse base harness. Refer to Image1.12.1.

Pull the ECM harness around both of the 12 pin attachment connectors and the fuse base harness, such that the ECM harness is on top.

12. Affix the ECM harness with black and brown connectors by using 3S-2093 Strap Cable at the green tape, the harness should route above the ladder clip. Refer to Image1.13.1.

13. Connect the black and brown connectors to the machine ECM. Refer to Image1.14.1.

14. Affix the bracket supporting the service connector. Refer to Image1.15.1.

15. Before closing the cover, confirm there is no interference of the cab harness and machine ECM, bracket, and Product Link controller. If clearance is not good, push harness to rear side and make clearance or fix harness by adding additional 7K-1181 Straps in order to make clearance as needed. Refer to Image1.16.1.

16. Turn battery main disconnect to the ?ON? position and then start the machine. Refer to Image1.17.1.

17. Verify no fault codes are present. Refer to Image1.18.1.

18. Affix the 327-6486 and 327-6487 Covers with five screws. Refer to Image1.19.1.
