Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Remove the air inlet pipe at the turbocharger.

  1. Remove the exhaust pipe and the exhaust coupling from the turbocharger.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy assembly.

    The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.

    Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly. Approximate weight of the body assembly is given below.

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (1) . Disconnect tube assembly (4) . Remove four bolts (3) and the nuts. Use two technicians to remove turbocharger (2) . The weight of the turbocharger is 23 Kg (50 lb) .
