  6. Install bearing cage (9) with bolts (8). Install shims to amounts needed according to following procedure.

  7. Bearing Setting Procedure for Input and Output Shafts.

    1. Assure that the bearing cups and cones are seated against the respective housing and shaft shoulders before assembly of the other components. Verify with a 0.038 mm (0.0015inch) thick feeler gauge.

    2. With axis of gear or shaft in the vertical position, assemble gear / cone or shaft / cone assembly into case.

    3. Insert two dowels 180 degrees from each other in housing.

    4. Assemble bearing cup cage to the housing with shim pack and O-ring seal (If specified). Insert bolts and tighten to specified torque. ( Make sure that cage does not bind in housing).

    5. Rotate shaft, while lightly tapping with mallet. a minimum of three times or until rolling resistance diminishes to a steady level.

    6. With a dial indicator gauge or other suitable measuring device, measure the endplay by lifting the gear or shaft.

    7. Repeat steps (D) through (F) until endplay is within the desired range.

    8. Rotate shaft to verify that no bearings are binding.

  8. Desired bearing setting is 0.152 mm (0.006 inch).

  9. Maximum bearing setting is 0.203 mm (0.008 inch).

  10. Set preload on bearing according to the procedure above. Tighten bolts (8).

  11. Turn the input transfer case over.

  14. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (4). Use Tooling (B) to install bearing cup (4).

  15. Repeat the bearing setting procedure from step 7.

  16. Install correct shims (5).

Lubricate and install O-ring seals (3).
