Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Start By:
a. Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

- Remove the drain plug from the filter housing, and store the plug for reuse.
- Drain the oil into a suitable container, and recycle the oil.

- Discard the seal for the drain plug.
- Clean the drain plug in a clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Install a new seal on the drain plug.

- Remove the filter housing and store for reuse.
- Remove the used filter element . Properly dispose of the used filter element.

- Clean the filter housing in clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Discard the backup ring and the housing seal.
- Install a new backup ring and housing seal

- Install the new filter element.
- Install the filter housing. Tighten the filter housing to 101.7 ± 10 N·m (75 ± 7.4 lb ft).
- Install the drain plug with the new seal into the filter housing. Tighten the plug to 51 ± 10 N·m (37.6 ± 7.4 lb ft).

- Start the engine, and operate the engine at low idle for 5 minutes.
- Check for leaks, and make any necessary repairs.
Note: Check the oil level in the Hoist-Brake Tank. If necessary, add oil. For the proper procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , Hoist and Brake Tank Oil Level – Check.
