  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Service Manual, SENR5664, "All Products Air Conditioning and Heating R134a for All Caterpillar Machines" for the recovering and the charging procedures. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Air Conditioning Tools" for the correct tools.

  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  3. Remove cover (1).

  4. Disconnect harness assemblies (2). Disconnect harness assembly (3) and cable assembly (4). Remove bolt (5).

  5. Remove access door (6).

  6. Remove all bolts (8) and the brackets that secure bracket assembly (7) to the machine. Use two people to remove bracket assembly (7). The weight of bracket assembly (7) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

  7. Turn fuel valves (9) to the OFF position.

  8. Disconnect hose assemblies (10). Loosen the clamps and disconnect hoses (11).

  9. Disconnect ground strap (12) from under the rear side of the cab.

  10. Remove nuts (14). Position brake control valve (13) out of the way.

  11. Disconnect hose assemblies (15).

  12. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cab (16). The weight of cab (16) is approximately 1597 kg (3520 lb).

  13. Remove bolt (19), the small washer, large washer (18), and rubber (17) from the front, right side cab mount. Repeat for opposite side.

  14. Remove the bolts and use two people to remove bracket assembly (20). The weight of bracket assembly (20) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

  15. Remove bolt (23), the washer, large washer (22), and rubber (21).

  16. Repeat Step 14 and Step 15 for the other side of the machine.

  17. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove cab (16).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install cab (16) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten the bolts for harness assemblies (2) to a torque of 6 ± 1 N·m (53 ± 9 lb in).
