When it is necessary to work under the machine with the body (bed) raised, attach the body (bed) retaining cables to the rear tow points. Install the rear tow point pins through the ends of the retaining cables.
Failure to properly secure the body (bed) may result in personal injury or death. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Start By:
a. Prepare the Machine for Maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

- Raise the dump body to the fully raised position.
- Connect the body retaining cables to the tow point pins.
- Turn off the engine.

- Check the Advisor display to verify that the hoist/brake system is relieved of any hydraulic pressure.

- Remove the drain plugs from the bottom of the screen housings, and store the plugs for reuse.
- Drain the oil into a suitable container, and recycle the oil.
Note: Removing the drain plug from the bottom of the screen housing may not drain all the oil from the screen.

- Clean the drain plugs and the seals for the drain plugs.
- Inspect the seals.
- If the seals are good, reuse the seals.
- If the seals are defective, discard and replace the seals.

- Remove the screen housings, and store the housings for reuse.

- Remove the hoist screens and the springs from the screen housings, and store the screens and the springs for reuse.

- Clean the screen housings and the seals for the screen housings.
- Inspect the seals.
- If the seals are good, reuse the seals.
- If the seals are defective, discard and replace the seals.

- Clean the hoist screens and the springs in a clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Install the springs and the hoist screens in the screen housings.

- Install the screen housings (with springs and hoist screens), and tighten the housings to the proper torque.
- Install the drain plugs, and tighten the plugs to the proper torque.

- Start the engine, and operate the engine at low idle.
- Check for leaks, and make any necessary repairs.

Note: The dump body may have lowered while performing the procedure. If the dump body has lowered, start the engine and raise the dump body to disconnect the body retaining cables.
- Disconnect the body retaining cables from the tow point pins.
- Lower the dump body.

- Check the oil level in the hoist/brake tank and, if necessary, add oil. For the proper procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hoist and Brake Tank Oil Level - Check".
