Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Configure

Usage:

770G ECM

Machine Configuration

The Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) service tool is used to access the configuration screen. A message on the Cat ET screen will give instructions that guide the user through the procedure.

Reference Troubleshooting, "Service Tools"

The electronic control module (ECM) must be configured when the ECM has been replaced. The configuration screen is only for machines with an ECM. The ECM must be configured before a calibration can be started.

A check of the configuration screen could resolve a problem with the machine. A problem with a component could be identified as one of the following items:

  • The component is not installed

  • The component is installed but a change to the installation is needed to correct a problem

Follow these instructions to get to the configuration screen:

  1. Connect the communications adapter and the computer to the diagnostic service tool connector.

  1. Start Cat ET.

  1. Select "File".

  1. Go to "Select ECM".

  1. Choose the desired ECM.

  1. Go to the "Service" Menu.

  1. Select "Configuration".

  1. Click "OK".

Certain operations or characteristics can be changed for attachments or preferences.

Configure the VIMSTM 3G Outputs

Use Cat ET to configure the VIMSTM outputs.

Procedure

  1. Connect a laptop computer with Cat ET to the machine service connector via the communication adapter.

  1. Turn the disconnect key and the keyswitch on.

  1. Start Cat ET and establish communication with the machine.
