Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Failures are present in the upshift and downshift push-button switches on the left hand 360-2987 Joystick Control Gp and 356-3608 Joystick Control Gp that are used on M Series and M Series 2 Motor Graders. Claim stories indicate that when one of the push-button switches is having a problem, a CID 621 (Downshift Switch) or a CID 622 (Upshift Switch) diagnostic code is activated. Missed upshifts or downshifts are also reported. The claims indicate that when the joystick or push-button faceplate is replaced, the problem is resolved.

Solution
The CPI team would like to install a datalogger on a machine to monitor machine conditions that may be occurring when the CID 621 or CID 622 diagnostic code is being activated or when an upshift or downshift is requested and does not shift as expected.
Note: If a motor grader in your U.S. territory is experiencing these types of problems and may be available for a quick and temporary installation of a datalogger, contact Dan McMullen by phone at 309-494-1892 or by email at: McMullen_Daniel_J@cat.com.
Note: The push-button faceplate on the left hand 360-2987 Joystick Control Gp and 356-3608 Joystick Control Gp that the upshift switch and downshift switch is mounted on is serviceable using the 416-0165 Joystick Kit . When a push-button switch on the joystick is determined to have failed, refer to Special Instruction, REHS7448, "Procedure for Removing and Replacing The Left-Hand Joystick Push-Button Faceplate On M Series, M Series 2, and M Series 3 Motor Graders".
