(1) Remove and keep bolts (1), washers, and spacers (2). Remove seal (3), and wear sleeve (4).
NOTE: The seal is not a tight fit. Remove with a screwdriver.
(2) Remove any sharp particles from surface (A) of the crankshaft. Use 6V1541 Quick Cure Primer to clean surface (A). Make sure all old retaining compound is removed. Install the 7D1979 O-ring in groove (B). A small amount of cutting of the seal on a cold crankshaft is normal when the wear sleeve is installed.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not install the O-ring on a hot crankshaft. Heat will make the O-ring larger in size, and will result in the O-ring being cut in two when the wear sleeve is installed. |
(3) Use 6V1541 Quick Cure Primer to clean surface (D) on 2W1794 Wear Sleeve (5). Put 9S3265 Retaining Compound on surface (A), of the crankshaft, and surface (D), of the wear sleeve. Keep the surfaces clean. Install wear sleeve (5), on the crankshaft, with surface (E) to the engine. Use a rubber hammer to push the wear sleeve on the crankshaft beyond surface (F), as shown.
(4) Use four bolts and 5P3022 Installer (6) to push wear sleeve (5) against surface (G), of the crankshaft. Carefully tighten each bolt 1/2 turn in the sequence shown. Do not start the engine for a minimum of 1.5 hours. Remove the extra 9S3265 Retaining Compound.
NOTICE |
---|
There must not be any damage to surface (H) of the wear sleeve. |
(5) Do not install the lip seal for a minimum of 30 minutes. Put the same lubricant on the lip seal, surface (J) of the installer tool, and surface (H) of the wear sleeve, as that being sealed. Carefully slide the seal over installer (6) and into adapter (7). Install bolts (1) and washers and spacers (2) removed in step one. Tighten the bolts evenly to a torque of 32 ± 5 lb.ft. (43 ± 7 N·m). Remove installer tool (6). Remove the extra 9S3265 Retaining Compound.
