Usage:
3T9227 Wear Sleeve can be installed on the transmission top shaft where the metal seal rings send oil for lubrication to the clutch disc assemblies and bearings. Formerly, a new transmission had to be installed if damage was found in this area. Modifications must be made to the transmission case before the new sleeve can be installed. A 3T9226 Cap must be installed if a new sleeve is installed. Use this instruction along with the Service Manual and Parts Book for the correct installation procedures.
(1) Remove the marine transmission from the engine. Disassemble the transmission and remove all the parts from case assembly (1). Cap (2) will not be needed again. Install 3T9226 Cap (3) with two 1D4556 Bolts and 5P8244 Washers where cap (2) was removed.
NOTE: Former dowels (4) must be installed between case (1) and cap (3). Use a 1P4000 Line Boring Tool Group to machine bore (A) to the dimension shown. Put 3T9227 Sleeve (5) in position in bore (A); use hole (B) as a guide and a 5.6Ø (.220"Ø) drill bit to make hole (C) in case (1) to the depth shown. Use a reamer to make hole (C) 6.17Ø ± .01 (.243"Ø ± .001"). Install 2H2255 Dowel (6) in hole (C) to the dimension shown. Thoroughly clean the transmission case and assemble the transmission as shown in the Service Manual, except install the seal rings and sleeve (5) on the top shaft. Install the top shaft and put the hole in sleeve (5) over dowel (6). Install cap (3) and the remainder of the parts of the transmission.
