3N5620 Spacer Group is a coupling between engines or generators in tandem applications, between the engine and generator on two bearing generator sets or between the engine and 7271 Marine Transmission. The spacer group can be removed so either unit can be removed without any movement or change to alignment of the other unit or units. The 3N5573 Spacer Assembly (part of 3N5620) is in two pieces. These pieces must be kept together. Parts of one spacer must not be used with parts of another spacer assembly. Use this instruction along with Special Instruction Forms SEHS7456-01 "ALIGNMENT OF CATERPILLAR MARINE TRANSMISSIONS AND MARINE ENGINES"; SEHS7654 "ALIGNMENT - GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS"; SEHS7073 "ALIGNMENT OF TWO BEARING GENERATORS" and SMHS7419 "TANDEM ENGINE TIMING PROCEDURE".
(1) Get the engines, generators, engine and generator or engine and marine transmissions in alignment; use the Special Instructions shown on the front page for the correct alignment procedures. Install 3N5573 Spacer Assembly (1) as shown. Loosely install eight bolts (2). Install 7L7524 Bolt (3) and 3K6060 Nut (4); tighten nut (4) to 45 ± 7 N·m (32 ± 5 lb. ft.) torque. Tighten bolts (2). Remove bolt (3) and the nut. Keep bolt (3) and the nut; they will be needed to fasten the two halves of the spacer together when they are removed from the machine.
Bolt (3) and the nut must be removed before the engine is operated. If the nut becomes loose or the bolt breaks, centrifugal force can throw the parts out and cause personal injury or death. |
