Usage:

3516 Engines

SUPPLEMENT: 10/07/91

Service Magazine; September 16, 1991; Page 7; "NewCylinder Blocks And Crankshafts Used" on 3516 3512 Engines. In the heading of the third column in Chart B, disregard the number .635". The correct number is 0.635 mm (.025").

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: Two changes have been made to the crankshaft for the 3516 Engines. In addition, a new cylinder block is used to accommodate the changes to the crankshaft. The changes are:

...The lightening holes have been removed from the connecting rod throws of the crankshaft. This will allow improved quality control with a simplified process.

...New crankshaft counterweights are forged steel and have a 225 mm (8.9") outside radius. The former crankshaft used counterweights made of plate steel with a 222 mm (8.7") outside radius. These new counterweights have more mass than the former counterweights which will improve the crankshaft balancing process in the factory. In addition, the added mass in the counterweight is needed to counterbalance the additional mass in the connecting rod throws without lightening holes.

New parts service crankshaft groups will use the new forged counterweights with an outside radius of 222 mm (8.7") to service the former crankshaft groups.

The new cylinder block has material machined off to provide clearance for the larger crankshaft counterweights.

Adaptable To: The part number of the new 3516 Cylinder Block Assembly is 7E4668 and the former 3516 Cylinder Block Assembly was 7C7754.

Chart A identifies the effectivity of the new cylinder block.

Chart B identifies the new crankshaft assemblies and the parts service crankshaft assemblies.

NOTE: The new crankshaft assemblies [with the 225 mm (8.9") radius counterweight] MUST NOT be used with the former cylinder block assembly. The larger counterweight could hit the former block and cause it to crack. The new block can be used with both the new and former crankshafts.

The new crankshaft assembly is the 7E5165. The former crankshaft assemblies were the 4W2417 and 7W0218.

Chart C identifies the effectivity of the new crankshaft assemblies.
