New Bearing Kits Used In Turbocharger Cartridge Groups{1052,7551}

Usage:

Turbocharger Models: 4, 4A, 4B, 4D, 4ME, 4MD, 4HD, 4HF, V4HD.

Description of Change: Two new bearing kits are used in turbocharger cartridge groups. The new kits have a sleeve located between two bearings which limits the amount of oil pressure the bearings must withstand. This will reduce the amount of thrust on the bearings and prevent excessive bearing wear. Previously, when high pressure oil flowed through the turbocharger cartridge's oil passage and entered the bearing chamber, the bearings had a tendency to push away from each other. This could cause premature bearing wear and additional components to fail.

Adaptable To: The new 1P5467 (A) and 3S5854 (B) Bearing Kits (Standard Turbocharger Cartridge) replace the former 3S4006 and 3S5853 Bearings. The new bearing kits are used in the improved spark-ignited engine turbocharger, Model 4MD, and the improved diesel engine turbocharger Models: 4, 4A, 4B, 4D, 4MD, 4ME, 4HD, 4HF, and V4HD.

Both bearings in the 1P5467 Bearing Kit (SI Model 4MD) are grooved on the inside diameter. This will permit a greater amount of oil to flow and cool the engine turbine seals on spark-ignited engines.

The bearings in the 3S5854 Bearing Kit (diesel Models 4 - V4HD) consist of a bearing with a grooved inside diameter on the compressor end, and a bearing with a smooth inside diameter on the turbine end.

(A) 1P5467 Bearing Kit. Both bearings are grooved on the inside diameter. (B) 3S5854 Bearing Kit. One bearing is grooved on the inside diameter and is located on the compressor end of the turbocharger cartridge. The other bearing is smooth on the inside diameter and is located on the turbine end of the turbocharger cartridge.

NOTE: Turbocharger Model 4MD has been used on both diesel and gas engines, but with different bearings. If there is excessive copper content in S·O·S results, it may indicate excessive wear of the turbocharger cartridge bearing.
