Introduction

This Special Instruction details an improved method of retaining the front axle mounting pin and the rear axle mounting pin. In order to apply this new retaining method for the pin, a new retaining plate must be fabricated.

Do not attempt this installation procedure until you have read the information in this Special Instruction and you understand the information.

Installation Procedure for Group 1 (Machines)

  1. Remove the retaining bolt for the axle mounting pin. Refer to Illustration 1.

  1. Pull out the pin enough to allow the pin to rotate over the boss for the retaining bolt.

    Illustration 2g01408098

  1. Rotate the pin. The pin should be pointing upward to the 12 o'clock position. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Push the mounting pin fully back into the frame.

  1. Check the shimming of the axle end float within the frame. Add additional washers to the axle if necessary, in order to obtain a maximum gap of 0.8 mm (0.03 inch). Ensure that the washers are equally positioned on each side of the axle.

Note: If the pin must be removed, make sure that the pin is installed pointing in the upward position.

  1. Remove the existing boss for the retaining bolt by using a grinder.
