Magnetic Sensor (Vibratory) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

CP-76 C7L

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

In order to avoid damage to the vibrator system during testing, always perform the testing with the vibrator drum on top of tires or on loose dirt. Tires will simulate a non-compacted soil condition

Never operate the vibrator system when the machine is on concrete.



NOTICE

If a testing time longer than three minutes is required, rotate the drum periodically in order to lubricate the eccentric weight shaft bearings.

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface on loose, uncompacted soil.

    Note: If loose, uncompacted soil is unavailable, drive the machine onto an unusable, loose tire and with a carcass of substantial stiffness in order to support the drum. If tires are used, the drum should be a minimum of 102 mm (4 inch) above the ground.

  1. Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  1. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  1. Remove two bolts, washer plate, and cable clamp (5) .

  1. Remove two bolts, and remove cover (6) .

  1. Remove rubber boot (7) .

  1. Disconnect two wires (not shown) from vibratory sensor (8). Mark the wires for the proper placement for reconnection.

  1. Connect Tool (A) to the terminals of vibratory sensor. Set Tool (A) to read frequency.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  1. Operate the engine at low idle for few minutes. Move throttle switch (3) to the HIGH IDLE position.

  1. Move amplitude selector switch (9) to the LOW AMPLITUDE position.

  1. Actuate vibratory switch (10) on the propulsion lever in order to start the vibrator.

  1. Read vibratory frequency on Tool (A). The tool should register a frequency. The value is not important.

  1. Actuate vibratory switch (10) on the propulsion lever in order to stop the vibrator.

  1. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  1. If a frequency value did not appear on Tool (A), go to Step 20. If Tool (A) registered a frequency value, go to Step 21.

  1. Loosen locknut (12). Rotate sensor (11) clockwise until the tip of the sensor touches the gear. Then, rotate the sensor in the counterclockwise direction for one full turn. Hold the sensor and tighten the locknut to a torque of 17 ± 3 N·m (12.5 ± 2.2 lb ft). Go to Step 11.

    Note: If the sensor can not be adjusted in order to produce a frequency value, replace the sensor and perform the test again.

  1. Remove Tool (A) and reconnect wires to vibratory sensor (8). Replace rubber boot (7). Replace cover (6) and bolts. Replace cable clamp (5), washer plate, and bolts.
