Start By:
- Remove the upper frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Upper Frame - Remove".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove all of the grease from the swing gear and bearing. Put the grease in a suitable container for storage or disposal.
- Attach a suitable lifting device to the gear and bearing group (1) by using Tooling (A), as shown. Put a slight lifting tension on the swing gear and bearing. Put an alignment mark on swing gear and bearing (1) and the undercarriage frame assembly for installation purposes.

- Use Tooling (B) to remove bolts (2) and the spacers that secure swing gear and bearing (1) to the undercarriage frame assembly.

- Carefully remove the swing gear and bearing from the undercarriage frame assembly. The weight of the swing gear and bearing is approximately 415 kg (915 lb).
- Remove the dust seals from the outer race and the inner race of the swing gear and bearing.
- Clean the sealing grooves of the inner race and outer race with fine grit sandpaper. Then use a cleaning solvent to clean the seal grooves. Make sure that the seal grooves are thoroughly clean and dry prior to installing new dust seals.
