    Illustration 4g00518841

  1. Place swing drive housing (25) in a suitable press, as shown. Install pinion shaft (28), cage (24), bearing (29) and spacer (27) as a unit in the swing drive housing. Make sure that the alignment marks that were made on the cage and on the swing drive housing are in alignment.

  1. Apply Tooling (F) on the threads of the bolts that secure cage (24) to swing drive housing (25). Install the bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly to the standard torque value.

    Illustration 5g00518842

  1. Turn the swing drive housing with the pinion shaft upside-down. Position the unit in a press. Support the unit on the end of the pinion shaft.

  1. Lower the temperature of inner bearing race (26), which is not shown. Install the inner bearing race over the pinion shaft and into bearing (31). Use a suitable sleeve and a press in order to seat the inner bearing race.

      Illustration 9g00518553

    1. Apply clean SAE 30 oil on bearings (19). Install bearings (19) in planetary gear (18) .

    1. Install a thrust washer (20) on each side of the planetary gear. Install the planetary gear and thrust washers in the carrier. Install planetary shaft (17) in the carrier assembly and through planetary gear (18). Make sure that the spring pin hole in the planetary shaft is aligned with the spring pin hole in the carrier.

    1. Install spring pin (16) in the carrier assembly and into the planetary shaft. Install the spring pin until the spring pin is even with the outside surface of the carrier assembly. Align the split in spring pin (16) to the top or the bottom.

      Illustration 10g00903073

    1. Make a stake mark on each side of the spring pin hole in the carrier assembly. This will prevent the spring pin from falling out of the spring pin hole. Each stake mark should be approximately 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) from the outside diameter of the spring pin hole.

    1. Repeat Steps 13.a through 13.d in order to install the other three planetary gears (18) in the carrier assembly.

    Illustration 11g00518552

  1. Install carrier assembly (13) in ring gear (21). Slide a piece of steel bar stock between the planetary gears in carrier assembly (13), as shown. Make sure that the steel bar stock is centered in the carrier assembly. Fasten Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the steel bar stock, as shown. Carefully, lower the carrier assembly into position in the ring gear. It may be necessary to move the carrier assembly back and forth during installation in order to ensure that all gears align and all gears mesh properly.
