Fuel Injection Pump Housing

Usage:

Disassemble & Assemble Fuel Injection Pump Housing

Start By:

a. remove fuel injection pumps

b. separate fuel injection pump housing and governor

c. remove fuel transfer pump

FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Loosen the screws that hold levers (3) to the shaft assembly.

2. Remove screw (1) that holds lever assembly (2) to the shaft assembly.

3. Remove shaft assembly (5) from the housing and remove levers (3) and lever assembly (2).

4. Loosen the screws that hold levers (6) to the shaft.

5. Remove the screw that holds lever (4) to the shaft.

6. Remove shaft (7) from the housing and remove the levers.

NOTE: Put identification on lifters (9) and rollers (10) for installation in their respective bores in the housing.

7. Remove lifter and roller assemblies (8) from the housing with a magnet.


NOTICE

Do not use force to remove camshaft (11). Turn the camshaft to pull it by bosses (12) in the housing.


8. Remove camshaft (11) from the housing.

9. If replacement of the front camshaft bearing is needed, see Special Instruction, SMHS6735 for installation of the service bearing.

NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the fuel injection pump housing.


NOTICE

Do not use force to install camshaft (11). Turn the camshaft to push it by bosses (12) in the housing.


10. Install camshaft (11) in the housing.

NOTE: Install the lifters with their grooves in alignment with the pins in the housing.

11. Install lifter and roller assemblies (8) in their respective bores in the housing with a magnet.

12. Put shaft (7) in the housing. Slide levers (6) and lever (4) on to the shaft in the order shown. Push the shaft into position in the housing.

13. Install the screw that holds lever (4) to the shaft. Use Tool (A) to tighten the screw to a torque of 2.8 ± 0.2 N·m (24.00 ± 2.00 lb in).

14. Put shaft assembly (5) in the housing. Slide levers (3) and lever assembly (2) on to the shaft in the order shown. Push the shaft assembly into position in the housing.

15. Install screw (1) that holds lever assembly (2) to the shaft assembly. Use Tool (A) to tighten the screw to a torque of 2.8 ± 0.2 N·m (24.00 ± 2.00 lb in).

End By:

a. make adjustments to the sleeve control shafts (Refer to the Systems Operation, Testing & Adjusting Manual)

b. install fuel transfer pump

c. connect fuel injection pump housing and governor

d. install fuel injection pumps
