Fuel Transfer Pump

Usage:

Remove & Install Fuel Transfer Pump

Start By:

a. remove fuel injection pump housing and governor

FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Install the fuel injection pump housing on Tool (A).

2. Remove the plug from cover (1). Turn the injection pump camshaft until Tool (B) can be installed in the camshaft.

3. Install Tool (C) in the threads of sleeve (3). Tighten the bolt until the sleeve can be removed.

4. Remove four bolts (4).

5. Remove the body (2).

6. Remove idler gear (5) from the body.

7. Remove O-ring seal (6) and two lip seals (7) from the body.

8. Remove drive gear (9) and key (8).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the fuel transfer pump.

9. Install key (8) and drive gear (9) on the shaft.

10. Put 4C-9501 Sealanton the outside of seals (7).

11. Install the inner seal in body (2) with the lip of the seal toward the inside with Tooling (D).

12. Install the outer seal in the body with the lip of the seal toward the outside with Tooling (E).

13. If necessary, install new dowels in body (2) until they extend 5.1 mm (.20 in)from the inside surface.

14. Remove the extra sealing compound from the body and the seals after installation.

15. Install O-ring seal (6) and idler gear (5) in the body.

16. Install body (2) and four bolts (4).

17. Put Tool (B) in position so the camshaft will not turn.

18. Put sleeve (3) on the camshaft.


NOTICE

Do not hit the sleeve to install or damage to governor will be the result.


19. Pull the sleeve into position on the shaft with Tooling (F) approximately 6.4 mm (.25 in). Pull the sleeve the remainder of the way with the washer which is on the tachometer drive shaft (4N-3371 Washer) until the sleeve is at the bottom.

20. The end play of the camshaft must be 0.58 ± 0.46 mm (.023 ± .018 in)after sleeve (3) is installed.
