Expansion Tank & Heat Exchanger

Usage:

Remove & Install Expansion Tank & Heat Exchanger

FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the coolant from cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

2. Disconnect the fuel inlet line and fuel outlet line from the fuel filter base. Cap and plug all openings immediately.

3. Remove bolts (1) from the top and bottom of guard (2), then remove guard (2).

4. Loosen hose clamps and disconnect hoses (3) from heat exchanger.

5. Loosen hose clamps and disconnect three hoses (4) from the bottom of the expansion tank.

6. Disconnect two hoses (5) and remove bolt (6).

7. Install lifting slings (7), remove bolts (8) and then remove expansion tank and heat exchanger as a unit. The weight of the unit is approximately 35 kg (78 lb).

NOTE: Install in the reverse order.

8. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
