Usage:
Install the 5P8709 Tool Group on a Caterpillar Fuel Injection Test Bench according to the procedure given in this instruction. Calibration oil from the test bench oil supply is used to check for correct alignment of the oil spray that comes from the orifice of a "bolt-on" piston cooling jet. If it is necessary to make an adjustment to correct the alignment and direction of the oil spray that comes from a piston cooling jet, use one of the special alignment wrenches that are part of the tool group.
Components Of 5P8709 Tool Group
1-5P8597 Spray Shield. 2-5P8600 Pan. 3-5P8596 Screen. 4-5P8599 Fixture Assembly. 5-5P8598 Target. 6-5P8612 Wrench. 7-5P8613 Wrench.
Installation Of 5P8709 Tool Group On A Caterpillar Fuel Injection Test Bench To Check Alignment Of Piston Cooling Jet
(1) Use four L472 Bolts (1) to fasten 5P8598 Target (2) to fixture (3) of the test bench. Use two S1588 Bolts (4) to fasten 5P8599 Fixture Assembly (5) to fixture (3). Remove the test bench oil pan and install 5P8600 Oil Pan (6).
(2) Install a piston cooling jet (7), with the correct bolt or screw fastener, to the front of a block (A, B, C or D according to the chart that follows) as shown above. Connect test bench oil supply line (8) to the rear side of all blocks except for an alignment check of 5L4262 Piston Cooling Jet on block (D).
NOTE: Oil supply line (8) must be connected to the left side [side (E)] when an alignment check of a 5L4262 Piston Cooling Jet is made on block (D).
(3) For 2N4541 and 5L4262 Piston Cooling Jets, cut off tab (F), (illustration I) of a 2V7572 Bumper as shown in illustration II. Use Vise Grip Pliers or a "C" clamp to hold the 2V7572 Bumper over the oil hole used for lubrication of the camshaft lobes and camshaft followers.
(4) Put 5P8597 Spray Shield (9) over 5P8598 Target (2) and put 5P8596 Screen (10) between shield (9) and target (2).
(5) Turn on the test bench oil supply and adjust the oil pressure with the test bench oil pressure regulator to maximum pressure.
NOTE: The flow of oil that comes from the piston cooling jet must go through the hole in target (2) that has the same part number as the piston cooling jet that is tested.
