Usage:
D343 - Industrial, Marine, Vehicle Engines;
1693 - Truck Engines
Earlier models of the above engines have a 2S1509 Seal at the front of the crankshaft. A new 7N142 Seal Group that has a 9J110 Wear Sleeve and a 9N2539 Seal, can now be installed as a replacement for the 2S1509 Seal used in these engines. Before the new seal group can be installed in these earlier engines, a larger opening must be made in the 9L6017 Front Cover or the 9S745 Front Cover, to give the necessary clearance for the new wear sleeve. See the instructions that follow.
NOTE: A new 9L6017 Front Cover or a 9S745 Front Cover, with the correct size opening for installation of the new seal group, is available from the Parts Department.
(1) Remove the front cover from the engine, and machine the bore to the dimensions shown.
NOTE: If a new front cover from the Parts Department is used, it is not necessary to do the machine operation.
(2) Install the front cover on the engine.
(3) To install the 7N142 Seal Group on a D343 Industrial, Marine or Vehicle Engine or a 1693 Truck Engine, make reference to seal installation for 5.4" (137) Bore, 6 cylinder engines in Special Instruction Form SMHS7100. For seal installation on D342 Industrial, Marine or Vehicle Engines, make reference to Crankshaft Front Wear Sleeve and Seal Installation Tool Chart for 5.75" (146) Bore Engines in Special Instruction Form SMHS6959.
