Usage:
The charts on the pages that follow list the contents of each tool group and the individual tool component usage by engine model. Some earlier model engines may require a conversion group to adapt them for use of lip-type seals. See pages 2 and 3.
Converting Earlier Models To Use Lip-Type Seals
A 5S3903 Lip-Type Seal and new baffle can be installed on 631C (67M1-67M3695, 67M3697, 67M3699, 67M3706), 633C (66M1-66M638, 66M641) and 769B (99F1-99F2540, 99F2542, 99F2543, 99F2548) machines, provided they were originally equipped with the parts shown in the left illustration above and the sealing surface of the crankshaft is clean, smooth and capable of providing a good surface for the seal lip. Remove the former baffle, thrower and seal ring and install the new 5S3903 Seal and 1P4429 Baffle.
An 8S3293 Seal Assembly can be installed on the following engines if equipped with a thrower and piston ring-type seal; D336 - 55B, 60B; 1676 - 54B; D334 - 92B, 93B; 1674 - 94B. Remove the thrower, seal and baffle and install the new baffle, wear sleeve and seal.
Installing Wear Sleeve And Seal
1 Install locator (1) to the end of the crankshaft; tighten bolts (2) enough to hold the locator and yet allow some side movement. Place the wear sleeve on locator (1) with the outside angle toward the rear of the engine. Slide the sleeve onto the crankshaft to center locator (1), then tighten bolts (2).
2 Place sleeve installer ring (3) on plate (4), and place this assembly onto the stud of locator (1). Lubricate nut (5) and press the sleeve onto the crankshaft. Remove plate (4) and installer ring (3).
NOTICE |
---|
Start the sleeve straight on locator (1); if it is necessary to tap, use a soft hammer. |
3 Lightly lubricate the seal with engine oil on the inside diameter and seal pilot (6), if required, on the outside diameter. If a wear sleeve is used, place the seal onto seal pilot (6), with the lip toward the crankcase. Slide pilot (6) onto locator (1) and the crankshaft or the gear, until the pilot bevel overlaps the sleeve bevel.
4 Place seal installer ring (7) on push plate (4) and place this assembly onto the stud of locator (1), or use bolt (2) and washer (8). Lubricate nut (5) or bolt (2) and press the seal into the flywheel housing or the baffle until the pusher plate becomes solid, or the shoulder on the installer ring stops against the flywheel housing or the baffle.
