System Pre-Shutdown

  1. Connect a PC to the RS-232/RS-485 port. The port is located on the bottom back corner of the system's System Input/Output and Isolation Board.

  1. Click on "Enter Password" menu option in order to view the "Enter User Name / Password" dialog box.

  1. Enter a valid "User Name" and then enter a valid "Password".

  1. Depress the "<Ctrl><X>" keys. This is done in order to bring the system to zero RPM.

  1. The system will prompt you to confirm the option. Depress the "<Y>" key.

    Note: This procedure is only available once during a 24 hour period.

    Note: A minimum of 15 minutes is required to lower the speed of the flywheel to 0 rpm.

    Note: Repeat this procedure for each flywheel.

  1. Turn the keyswitch (1) to the Bypass position. Refer to Illustration 4.

  1. Make sure that the UPS is in Bypass mode by pressing the "Home" soft key that is located on the User Interface Panel and observing the status line on the LCD.


    NOTICE

    If the system does not enter the Bypass mode, Do Not Proceed with this procedure. Equipment damage or load interruption may occur. Contact your Caterpillar Dealer.


    Note: The output of the UPS will be disconnected and/or de-energized by continuing with this procedure.

  1. Disconnect the facility load circuits from the Output Node of the System. Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Disconnect the facility load circuits from the Input Node of the System. Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Allow the capacitor banks to bleed down for approximately 5 minutes.

    Note: When the flywheel is spinning, the following components are energized: the DC bus and the armature leads. Accomplish the procedure as quickly as possible. During the procedure, the rotor is spinning on the bottom bearing.

  1. Close the Bypass Switch (4) that is located in the Input/Output Cabinet. Refer to Illustration 7.

    Note: Closing the Bypass Switch will ensure that power to the critical load will not be interrupted.

  1. Open the Output Isolation Switch (5) that is located in the Input/Output Cabinet. Refer to Illustration 7.

  1. Open the Input Isolation Switch (6) that is located in the Input/Output cabinet. Refer to Illustration 7.

  1. Allow the capacitor banks to bleed down for approximately 5 minutes.

  1. Open the Output Isolation Switch (5) that is located in the Input/Output cabinet. Refer to Illustration 9.

  1. Open the Input Isolation Switch (6) that is located in the Input/Output cabinet. Refer to Illustration 9.

  1. Remove facility power from the Input Node of the System. Refer to Illustration 9.

  1. Allow the capacitor banks to bleed down for approximately 5 minutes.

    Note: When the flywheel is spinning, the following components are energized: the DC bus and the armature leads. Accomplish the procedure as quickly as possible. During the procedure, the rotor is spinning on the bottom bearing.
