VIMS 的大部分系统事件都是在事件开始后延迟 8 秒钟显示。 事件列表中列出的任何系统事件都会延迟 8 秒钟显示。 其他电子控制模块中发生的系统事件在该 ECM 的软件中会有延迟， 但与 VIMS 相关的系统事件除外。 与 VIMS 相关的事件在原 ECM 中显示的同时也会立即显示在 VIMS 中。
处于“ACTIVE”状态的诊断代码显示在信息区 (10) 中。 VIMS 通过在信息区中显示某参数存在“ERROR”来指定诊断代码。 此外，VIMS 还会向操作员发送指示， 例如，发送 "CALL SHOP" 指示。 处于“ACTIVE”状态的各个系统事件将以 3 秒钟的间隔在信息区滚动显示。 下图是差速器机油压力电路中存在错误的事件示例。

在仪表模式下按 "F1" 键可查看诊断代码。 再按一次 "F1" 键可查看 FMI。 以下是 FMI 示例："Short to ground"。
VIMS 的故障诊断和排除所使用的操作步骤与相应诊断代码的操作步骤相同。
