IT62G Series II Integrated Toolcarrier Caterpillar

Warning Categories (Caterpillar Monitoring System)

Usage:

IT62G II AYA
The Caterpillar Monitoring System provides four warning categories. The first category requires only operator awareness. The second warning category requires an operator response in order to correct the warning condition. The third warning category is considered severe. An immediate change in operating techniques is required. The fourth warning category requires immediate shutdown of the machine systems.

The alert indicators are located below the switch panel on the upper right side of the cab. There are ten alert indicators and a digital display window (10). The switch (1) is used for scrolling through different categories in the display window (10).

A warning will also be present if a temperature gauge reaches excessive levels. The gauges are located on the dash panel.

Warning Category 1

In this category, only the alert indicators will flash. The warning requires attention from the operator. The warning identifies the system in need of attention.

Parking Brake (3) - The parking brake is engaged and the transmission is in neutral. The alert indicator should flash during engine start-up. The alert indicator should stop flashing when the parking brake is released.

Electrical System (5) - There is a malfunction in the electrical system. The system voltage is too high for normal machine operation or the system voltage is too low for normal machine operation.

If the light remains on during normal operating speeds and with light electrical loads, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

If the electrical loads (air conditioning and/or lighting) are high and the engine speed is low, then increase the engine speed. This will generate more output from the alternator. If the alert indicator (5) for the electrical system turns off within one minute, the electrical system is operating normally. Overload can occur during periods of low engine speeds.

Revise the operating cycle in order to avoid overloading the electrical system. Overloading the electrical system could result in discharging the batteries.

Low idle must be corrected. Adjust the idle setting to the high side of low idle when the most common electrical loads are turned on. Reducing loads will also help. Use the medium fan speed instead of the high fan speed.

If this procedure does not cause the alert indicator (5) to turn off, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault. The fault may be caused by an alternator belt that is loose or broken. Also, the batteries or the alternator may be faulty.

Secondary Steering (12) (If Equipped) - When you turn the engine start switch to the ON position, the alert indicator for the secondary steering will turn on for three seconds. Then, the alert indicator will turn off. If the alert indicator for the secondary steering does not come on, investigate the cause of the fault. Do not operate the machine until the fault has been corrected.

Warning Category 2

In this category, the alert indicator and action light will flash. A change in machine operation is required in order to reduce excessive temperature in one or more of the systems. The action alarm will not sound with a warning category 2.

If you have investigated the cause of the problem but the alert indicator and the action light continue to flash, do not operate the machine.

Air Inlet Temperature (9) - The air inlet temperature is too high. If the alert indicator comes on, change operating techniques or park the machine in order to allow the air cooler to cool down. If the situation continues, consult your Caterpillar dealer.

Brake Oil Temperature (6) - The brake oil temperature is too high. If the alert indicator comes on, change operating techniques or park the machine in order to allow the axle to cool down. If the situation continues, consult your Caterpillar dealer.

Coolant Temperature (13) - This gauge indicates excessive coolant temperature. If the gauge needle is in the red area, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Transmission Oil Temperature (14) - The gauge indicates excessive transmission oil temperature. If the gauge needle is in the red area, reduce the load on the machine. If the gauge needle is in the red area and the action light continues to flash after approximately five minutes, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Hydraulic Oil Temperature (15) - The gauge indicates excessive hydraulic oil temperature. If the gauge needle is in the red area, reduce the load on the system. If the gauge needle remains in the red area, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Warning Category 2-S

The warning category 2-S includes a constant alarm. Warning category 2-S includes all warnings in category 2. The warning category 2-S is a severe condition. The operator should immediately change the operating procedures in order to prevent damage to the machine. When the correct measures have been taken, the alarm will stop. A category 2-S is logged.

Warning Category 3

In this category, the alert indicator and the action light will flash and the action alarm will sound intermittently. Immediate shutdown of the machine is required in order to prevent severe damage to the system and/or to the machine.

Do not operate the machine until the fault has been corrected.

Engine Oil Pressure (2) - The alert indicator indicates low oil pressure. If this alert indicator flashes, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Parking Brake (3) - The alert indicator indicates that the parking brake is engaged. If the alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

If the parking brake and the transmission are engaged during engine start-up, the alert indicator (3) and the action light will flash and the action alarm will sound. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position in order to stop the action alarm.

Brake Oil Pressure (4) - The warning light indicates low oil pressure to the brakes. If this alert indicator flashes, then stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Electrical System (5) - The alert indicator indicates a serious malfunction in the electrical system. If this alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Primary Steering (11) - The alert indicator (11) for the primary steering will turn on for three seconds when the engine start switch is turned to the ON position. Then, the alert indicator (11) will turn off. If the alert indicator (11) does not turn on, investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine until the cause has been corrected. The alert indicator will light and the action alarm will sound when the primary steering oil pressure is low. If this alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault. Do not operate the machine until the fault has been corrected.

Hydraulic Oil Filter Indicator (7) - The warning light indicates a plugged hydraulic oil filter. If this alert indicator flashes, then stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Hydraulic Oil Level (8) - The warning light indicates a low hydraulic oil level. If this alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.
