- Make sure that the drain plug for the final drive is in the appropriate position, as shown. Install suitable wheel chocks.
- Place a suitable container under the final drive.
- Remove plug (1) from the final drive. Drain the fluid from the final drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil and Screens - Change/Clean" for the approximate fluid capacity of the final drive.
- Check the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
- Lubricate the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
- Install plug (1) to the final drive.

- Remove bolts (5) that secure cover (6) to the final drive.
- Remove cover (6) and the O-ring seal from the final drive. The weight of cover (6) is approximately
120 kg (265 lb) . - Remove the thrust washer that is located between cover (6) and the front of the final drive (not shown).

Illustration 5 g01882404 - Install Tooling (B) to the final drive. Tooling (B) prevents the sun gear from falling when the axle shaft is removed. Thread threaded rod (X) of Tooling (B) until threaded rod (X) is in firm contact with the sun gear.

Note: These four engagement points can be damaged as axle shaft (9) is removed.
