Step 4 on Page 183 and Step 4 on Page 202 are incorrect. Insert the following information in both procedures.
Shims are located under bearing cup (45). The thickness of the shim pack will not need to be changed if you are not changing the bevel gear and pinion. The shims are needed in order to properly set up the bevel gear and pinion. The initial thickness of the shim pack must be calculated. First, if you are installing a new bevel gear set into the existing carrier assembly, obtain the "HD" number from the end of the old pinion shaft. Obtain the "HD" number from the end of the new pinion shaft. Subtract the new "HD" from the old "HD". If the answer is negative, you must remove an equivalent thickness of shims from the existing shim pack. If the answer is positive, you must add an equivalent thickness of shims to the existing shim pack. If the answer is zero, you should reuse the existing shim pack.
