CID 0253 FMI 02 Personality Module mismatch

Usage:

MTC835 816
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

The personality module that is used for replacement is for a different engine family or for a different engine application.

Note: The personality module is installed into the Electronic Control Module (ECM) by flash programming.

System Response:

The ECM will not log the code. The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) will not be able to clear the code.

Fuel injection is disabled. The engine will not start.

Test Step 1.

Check the part number of the personality module. Ensure that the part number agrees with the original engine arrangement.

Expected Result:

The part number of the personality module is correct.

Results:

  • OK - The part number of the personality module is correct.

    Repair: If the 253-02 diagnostic code is active and the part number of the personality module is correct, the code must be cleared in order to start the engine. Clearing this code requires factory passwords. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Factory Passwords".

    STOP

  • Not OK - The part number of the personality module is incorrect.

    Repair: Program the ECM with the correct personality module. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Flash Programming".

    STOP
