Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Usage:

TH82 3JN

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the dust guard. Refer to Machine Systems, Disassembly and Assembly, RENR3437, "Dust Guard - Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

  1. Put identification marks on all the wires that are attached to the starting motor for installation purposes.

  1. Loosen nut (2). Remove wires (1) and wires (3) from the starter motor.

  1. Lift cap (4) in order to loosen screw (5). Remove wire (6) from the starter motor solenoid.

  1. Loosen mounting nut (7) for the starter motor in order to remove ground wire (8) .

  1. Loosen two mounting nuts (9) and remove starter motor (10) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  1. Position starter motor (10) onto the engine and install two mounting nuts (9) .

  1. Connect ground wire (8) and install mounting nut (7) .

  1. Connect wire (6) to the starter motor solenoid and tighten screw (5). Close cap (4) .

  1. Connect wires (3) and wires (1) to the starter motor. Install nut (2) .

End By: Install the dust guard. Refer to Machine Systems, Disassembly and AssemblyRENR3437, "Dust Guard - Remove and Install".
