Fill Pressure for the Impeller Clutch of the Torque Converter (Caterpillar Monitoring System) - Calibrate

Usage:

834G 6GZ
Reference: For information on the setup of the Caterpillar Monitoring System, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration" for the machine that is being serviced.

Use submode 28 to calibrate the impeller clutch pressure.

Procedure for the Pressure Calibration of the Impeller Clutch

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine.

----------------------

  1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

  1. Shift the transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Lower the blade or the work tool to the ground.

  1. Engage the parking brake.

  1. Place blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  1. Install the steering frame lock.

  1. Shut off the engine.

  1. Allow only authorized personnel on the machine. Keep unauthorized personnel off the machine and in clear sight of the operator.

    (1) Set/Decel Switch. (2) Resume/Accel Switch.

  1. The machine should be in the NEUTRAL position. Set the parking brake. Increase the engine speed to high idle.

Note: You can use SET/DECEL button (1) to maintain the high idle. RESUME/ACCEL button (2) can be used to resume high idle.

  1. Use the INCREMENT (+) position of the "CLEAR" switch in order to start the calibration procedure.

  1. When the display on the Caterpillar Monitoring System is 28_EXX, an error has been detected in the setup. Check the error codes in Table 2.

    Table 2
Impeller Clutch Valve Calibration Setup Condition Error Codes
E01     Speed sensor fault is active
E02     Impeller clutch solenoid fault is active
E03     Transmission oil temperature is high (above 95° C)
E04     Direction switch is not in neutral
E05     Transmission oil temperature is low (below 75° C)
E06     Engine speed is low (below 1800 rpm)
E07     Parking brake is not engaged
E08     Transmission output speed is not zero

  1. When the display shows 28_0->, toggle the "CLEAR" switch in order to begin the calibration procedure. Once the calibration procedure starts the display will show 28_1->. The one will move across the screen until the calibration procedure is complete.

  1. If the calibration procedure was successful, 28_--- will be displayed on the Caterpillar Monitoring System.

  1. If the calibration procedure was not successful, 28_EXX will be displayed on the Caterpillar Monitoring System. Check the error codes in Table 3.

    Table 3
Impeller Clutch Valve Calibration Failed Error Codes
E11     High Variation in the Impeller Clutch Fill Calibration
E12     Fill Commanded Pressure below Low Limit 400 kPa
E13     Fill Commanded Pressure above High Limit 1200 kPa
E14     Torque Converter Output Speed Change is less than 50 rpm
E15     Torque Converter Output Speed High
E16     Torque Converter Output Speed Low
E17     Transmission Oil Temperature is less than 70° C
E18     Transmission Oil Temperature is greater than 100° C

  1. To exit submode 28, scroll to the next submode by using the "SCROLL" switch or exit Transmission Calibration Mode (6) by using the "MODE" switch.

  1. Stop the engine if testing is complete.
