Description of Change: A new retainer ring is used in the piston motor for the front wheel drive hydraulic system. This retainer ring keeps the clips from becoming dislodged while the front wheel drive hydraulic system is in operation. The retainer ring will also prevent the clips from becoming damaged when service is performed on the motor.
Adaptable To: The new 166-8646 Piston Motor is a direct replacement for the former 104-3636 Piston Motor. The new 166-8647 Piston Motor is a direct replacement for the former 104-3637 Piston Motor. The new piston motors are effective with 143H (S/N: 1AL581) and 163H (S/N: 5AK182).
The former piston motors can be updated by replacing the 114-6579 Hydraulic Piston Block with the new 166-8648 Hydraulic Piston Block .
The former 114-6579 Hydraulic Piston Block can be updated by drilling and tapping the five bolt holes and installing the new 166-8649 Retaining Ring with five 6V-8836 Bolts. See Illustrations 1 and 2.

The 114-6579 Hydraulic Piston Block can be reworked by performing the following steps:
- Use the new ring as a template to mark the location of five equally spaced holes.
- Make sure that the holes are in the proper relation with the area for aligning the spline (A) .
- Drill and tap the five holes (B) .
- Drill a hole that has a diameter of 5.2 mm (.20 inch) and a depth of 15.0 mm (.60 inch).
- Tap holes with M6x1.0 thread to a depth of 12.0 mm (.50 inch).
