    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature the implement hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.

To prevent possible injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system before hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Place a suitable container under the rear axle housing assembly. Remove plug (1) and the O-ring seal from the differential and bevel gear.

  2. Drain the fluid from the rear axle housing assembly. The approximate capacity of the rear axle housing assembly at the differential and bevel gear is 946 L (250 US gal).

  3. Check all the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

  4. Lubricate the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  5. Install plug (1) and the O-ring seal to the differential and bevel gear.
