Start By:

  1. Remove the crankcase guard.

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


    Note: This procedure is for the right side of the machine. Refer to Step 19 for the procedure for the left side.

  1. Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tube to prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid system.

  3. Position Tooling (A) underneath the frame on each side of the machine.

  4. Position Tooling (A1) underneath the frame on each side of the machine. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1328, "Lift Group (Stand - 60 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (A1).

  5. Lower the suspension. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7064, "Suspension - Lower" for the correct procedure.

  6. Remove bolt (1) and the washer from suspension cylinder (2).

  7. Remove hoses (3) from the retainer clips.

  8. Remove two bolts (4), the washers, and the nuts that secure washer fluid bottle (5) to the mounting bracket. Position the washer fluid bottle out of the way.

  9. Remove grease line (6) from washer (7).

  10. Remove bolt (8), washer (7), the nut, and the washer. Remove the O-ring from the washer.

  11. Remove pin (9).

  12. Remove spacers (10) and seal rings (11).

    The hoist, steering, and brake system tank have been removed for photographic reasons.

  13. Remove hydraulic hose (12) from the suspension cylinder.

  14. Remove grease line (13) from washer (14).

  15. Remove bolt (15), washer (14), the nut, and the washer. Remove the O-ring from the washer.

    The hoist, steering, and brake system tank have been removed for photographic reasons.

  16. Install Tooling (B), an appropriate lifting sling, and a hoist to the suspension cylinder.

  17. Remove pin (16).

  18. Remove the suspension cylinder from the machine. The suspension cylinder weighs 76 kg (168 lb).

  19. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 and 9 through 18 for the left side.

    Note: Attach Tooling (B), an appropriate nylon lifting sling, and a hoist, as shown above.
