Front Cover - Remove and Install

Usage:

3056 1ML

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove and Install".
  2. Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove and Install".
  3. Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove".

  1. Remove bolts (1) and front cover (2) .

  1. Remove the crankshaft front seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove".

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Clean all surfaces of the front housing and clean the front cover thoroughly.

  1. Install the crankshaft front seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Install".

  1. Use Tooling (A) and existing bolts to center front cover (2) .

  1. Install front cover (2) and bolts (1) .

  1. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft) using the sequence in Illustration 3.


NOTICE

The location of the front cover is critical. If the front cover is not centered, the backlash between the fuel injection pump gear and the water pump gear could be affected. This could result in damage to the fuel injection pump.


End By:

  1. Install the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Install".
  2. Install the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove and Install".
  3. Install the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove and Install".
