Turbocharger - Remove and Install

Usage:

572R 2HZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the muffler.

Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Muffler - Remove and Install" in this module.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Loosen clamp (2). Disconnect elbow (1) from turbocharger (3) .

  1. Loosen two clamps (5). Disconnect pipe (4) from turbocharger (3) .

  1. Disconnect two tubes (6) from turbocharger (3). Remove four nuts (7). Remove turbocharger (3) from the exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of the four studs and to the threads of four nuts (7) .

  1. Position turbocharger (3) on the exhaust manifold. Loosely install four nuts (7). Connect two tubes (6) to turbocharger (3) .

  1. Connect pipe (4) to turbocharger (3). Do not tighten two clamps (5) .

  1. Connect elbow (1) to turbocharger (3). Tighten clamps (2) and (5) to a torque of 14 ± 1 N·m (10.3 ± 0.7 lb ft).

  1. Lightly tap the clamps on all the sides. Tighten the clamps to a torque of 14 ± 1 N·m (10.3 ± 0.7 lb ft).

  1. Tighten four nuts (7) to a torque of 54 ± 5 N·m (39.8 ± 3.7 lb ft).

End By: Install the muffler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Muffler - Remove and Install" in this module.
