Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Park the machine on a level surface. Ensure that the parking brake is fully engaged. Ensure that the suspension is at the normal ride height. Check that the oil level is visible on the hydraulic tank sight glass. Fully raise and then lower the dump body.
- Stop the engine and allow the level of the hydraulic oil to stabilize.
- The hydraulic oil level is checked on sight glass (1) .

- Unlock the padlock on filler cap (2). Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve the hydraulic system pressure.
- The hydraulic oil level must be on the "FULL" indicator mark (3) of the sight glass when the hydraulic oil is at operating temperature. When the hydraulic oil is cold the oil must be at the MID position (4) on the sight glass.

- If necessary, add system oil through the oil filler tube.
Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscocities and Refill Capacities".
- Clean filler cap (2) .
- Install filler cap (2) and the padlock.
- Clean up any spilled oil.
Note: The hydraulic tank cover has been removed for clarity on illustration 2. It is not necessary to remove the hydraulic tank cover in order to check the hydraulic oil level.
