Engine Oil Filter and Oil Filter Base - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the turbocharger.

  1. Use Tooling (A) and remove engine oil filter (1). Remove the bolt and washer (3) and put ground cable (2) out of the way.

    Note: Bolts (4) are different lengths. Identify each bolt location.

  1. Remove the 14 bolts and washers (4). Remove oil filter base (5) and the gasket.

Installation Procedure

    Note: The two bolts that are called out in the above photo are longer than the other 12 bolts.

  1. Check for wear or damage on the gasket of the oil filter base. If necessary, replace the gasket. Position the gasket and oil filter base (5) on the engine. Install the 14 bolts and washers (4) .

  1. Position ground cable (2). Install the bolt and washer (3) .

  1. Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean oil and install new oil filter (1). Tighten the oil filter until the seal contacts the oil filter base (5). The oil filter must be turned an additional 270 degrees.

End By: Install the turbocharger.
