Fuel Tank - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the hood.
  2. Remove the muffler.
  3. Remove the air cleaner.

  1. Remove two bolts and washers (1) and remove cover (2) from the fuel tank.

  1. Position two valves (3) and (4) to the OFF position.

  1. Place a piece of 127.0 mm (.62 inch) ID by 46.0 cm (18 inch) long tube onto valve (5). Open valve (5). Drain the fuel into a suitable container. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for capacity.

    Note: Disconnect the dust ejector tube from the bottom of the tank.

  1. Disconnect wire harness (6) at the quick coupler. Remove bolt (7) that holds the clamp for the aftercooler to the fuel tank.

  1. Loosen two nuts (10) on the exhaust clamp. Remove the two nuts and bolts (8) and remove exhaust tube assembly (9) .

  1. Remove wire tie (11) and set the hose assemblies and the wire harness out of the way.

  1. Disconnect wire harness (12) at the quick coupler. Remove the wire ties that hold wire harness (12) to the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the wire ties (13) that hold the hose assemblies, the wire harnesses and the governor cable to the fuel tank.

  1. Disconnect main wiring harness (14) at the quick coupler.

  1. Mark the two fuel hose assemblies (16) for installation. Remove two wire ties (15). Remove the fuel hoses and plug fuel hoses (16) .

  1. Remove two bolts (17) that hold the air conditioning dryer to the fuel tank. Remove wire tie (18) and two bolts (19) that hold the solenoid to the fuel tank. Disconnect cable assembly (20) from the fuel tank.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the fuel tank. Remove the two bolts and washers (21) that are located on sides of the front support of the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the two bolts and washers (22) that are located on both sides of the rear mount of the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank. The weight of the fuel tank is 166 kg (366.0 lb).

    Note: The hose between the two fuel tanks must be disconnected on machines that have dual fuel tanks.

Installation Procedure

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the fuel tank. Install the fuel tank, the two bolts and washers (22) that are located on both sides of the rear mount of the fuel tank .

  1. Install the two bolts and washers (21) that are located on both sides of the fuel tank. Remove the lifting device.

  1. Connect cable assembly (20) to the fuel tank. Install two bolts (19) that hold the solenoid to the fuel tank and install wire tie (18). Install two bolts (17) that hold the air conditioning dryer to the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the plugs and install fuel hose assembly (16). Install two wire ties (15) .

  1. Connect main wiring harness (14) at the quick coupler.

  1. Install the wire ties (13) that hold the hose assemblies, wire harnesses and governor cable to the fuel tank.

  1. Install the wire ties that hold wire harness (12) to the fuel tank. Connect wire harness (12) with the quick coupler.

  1. Put the hose assemblies into position and install wire tie (11) .

    Note: Connect the dust ejector tube onto the bottom of the tank.

  1. Install exhaust tube assembly (9). Install two nuts and bolts (8) and tighten two nuts (10) on the exhaust clamp.

  1. Install bolt (7) that holds the clamp for the aftercooler to the fuel tank. Connect wire harness (6) at the quick coupler.

  1. Remove the tube and close valve (5) .

  1. Position valves (3) and (4) to the open position.

  1. Install cover (2) onto the fuel tank and install two bolts and washers (1) .

    Note: The hose between the two fuel tanks must be connected on machines that have dual fuel tanks.

End By:

  1. Install the air cleaner.
  2. Install the muffler.
  3. Install the hood.
