(B) Distance between the front tires at the back

(F) Distance between the front tires at the front

Use the following procedure to adjust the front wheel alignment:

  1. Lift the front of the truck until the front wheels are off the ground and the strut rods in the suspension cylinders are fully extended.

  1. Move the wheels to a straight ahead position.

  1. Measure distance (F) between the front tires. Mark the measurement locations of distance (F) on each tire.

  1. Rotate the tires by 180 degrees.

  1. Measure distance (B) between the marks that were made in Step 3 .

  1. Use Table 1 to determine the correct toe-out when the front wheels are off the ground.

    Table 1
    Model     Correct Toe-Out
    784B     (B) = (F) - 164.6 mm (6.48 inch)
    785B     (B) = (F) - 48.5 mm (1.91 inch)

  1. Use the following procedure to adjust the tie rods in order to get the correct toe-out with the front wheels off the ground:

    1. Loosen clamps (1) and (2) .

    1. Turn each tie rod by the same number of turns in order to get the correct toe-out.

Note: After adjustment, the tie rods must be of equal length.

Note: Use the following procedure to align the tie rod with the clamp assembly. Failure to correctly locate the clamp assembly on the tie rod could shorten the service life of the tie rod assembly.

(10) Nut

(A) Maximum dimension for location of clamp assembly (8) ... 6.3 mm (0.25 inch)

(10) Torque for nut ... 620 N·m (455 lb ft)

  1. Position the clamp assembly (8) on the tie rod (9) , as shown. Refer to illustration 2 .

  1. Align the open portion of the clamp assembly (8) with one of the slots in tie rod (9) . Refer to illustration 3 .

  1. Torque nut (10) to the specified torque.

Note: When the adjustment is correct, there will be a front wheel toe-in when the truck is in normal operation with correctly charged suspension cylinders.
