Wheel Bearing Adjustment

Note: Before you proceed, tap the thread holes by hand or use a wire brush on the thread holes to remove the thread lock compound.

  1. Install wheel (2) and bearing assemblies (10) and (11) onto axle (1) .

  1. Without using shims (8) , use four bolts (7) to assemble retainer (6) to axle (1) . Be sure that bolts (7) are equally spaced.

  1. Torque four bolts (7) to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  1. Rotate the wheel for two revolutions in order to seat the bearings.

  1. Torque four bolts (7) to 80 N·m (59lb ft).

  1. Rotate the wheel for two revolutions.

  1. Torque four bolts (7) to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  1. Rotate the wheel for two revolutions in order to seat the bearings.

  1. Use a depth micrometer at the two threaded holes in retainer (6) to measure the distance from the end of axle (1) to the outer face of retainer (6) . Record the average of the measurements.

  1. Remove retainer (6) . Measure the thickness of retainer (6) at the two threaded holes that were used to get the previous measurements. Record the average of the measurements.

  1. Use the average distance from the end of axle (1) to the outer face of retainer (6) . Subtract the average thickness of retainer (6) from this measurement. This measurement is the distance from the end of axle (1) to the inner face of retainer (6) .

  1. Install shim pack (8) . In order to determine the shim pack thickness, add 0.340 mm (0.0134 inch) to the distance that was found in the previous step.

Note: Before final assembly, apply Loctite 242 Blue Threadlocker to bolts (7) .

  1. Install 14 bolts (7) . Torque bolts (7) to 250 ± 14 N·m (184 ± 10 lb ft).
