PROBLEM
The existing display can fail to start normally in temperatures less than zero degrees Celsius. If the existing display exhibits a lockup condition at the Caterpillar logo screen at startup, warm the display to greater than zero Celsius and restart the machine. The display should then boot normally. If the display exhibits this failure once it will likely repeat if exposed to that temperature or lower. This failure is the result of changes in the internal timing of the integrated circuit. Machines in this letter were built with chips susceptible to this failure mode. Not all machines will fail, even at low temperatures. |

ACTION REQUIRED
If you experience a failure, please verify the failure mode is lockup at the Caterpillar logo screen (Image1) at low temperatures. Other failure modes, could indicate a system issue and not a failed display. Refer to the machine troubleshooting guide for further instructions. Susceptible displays can be identified by date code as seen in Image2 (May 09, 2017 through July 17, 2017). Refer to the table in Image3 for the correct hardware and software for the machine. Group 2: Remove existing secondary display. Install replacement display and flash with software file 5647736 or latest available on SIS Web. Refer to Service Magazine, M0072274, as a reference for the software installation information. An Ethernet cable and cable part number 457-6114 are required to install the software. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the personal computer. Refer to Image4. Install the other end of the cable to the port on the 457-6114 cable. Refer to Image 5. Attach the 457-6114 cable to the cab. Refer to Image 6. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, M0077404, "Module - Flash Program", for installing the flash file. Select Winflash from the ET main screen rather than selecting "Connect". Refer to Image 7. |
