Installation Procedure:

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:

Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

Lower the bucket and/or attachments to the ground and engage the parking brake.

Stop the engine and remove the key.

Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.

-------WARNING!-------

1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep other personnel away from the machine.

2. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Tilt the harvester head into the HORIZONTAL position. Lower the head to the ground. Lower all other attachments.

3. Engage the parking brake. Place blocks in front of the wheels. Place blocks behind the wheels.

4. Install the steering frame lock so that the machine cannot articulate. Install the cab lock pin.

5. Turn the attachment switch to the OFF position. Stop the engine by turning the engine start switch key to the OFF position.

6. Move the control levers through the full range of travel.

7. In order to relieve all of the pressure in the hydraulic oil tank, slowly loosen the filler cap.

Installation Procedure For The 487, 495, 687, And 695 Tree Harvesters:

158-7207 Fumes Disposal Tube Dimensions.

(A) 25 mm (.98 inch) Outside Diameter.
(B) 1.5 mm (.06 inch) Thickness.
(C) 45 Degrees.
(D) 145 mm (5.71 inches) Length.

1. Before installation, a tube will need to be manufactured. The tube dimensions are shown in the previous illustration. The dimensions are not critical and the tube can be made from any type of mild weldable steel.

Close-up View of 159-3675 Rear Frame on 580 (7CN) Wheel Harvester.

(1) Slot.
(2) Frame Joint.

2. For the 487, 495, 687, and 695 Tree Harvesters, remove the previous fumes disposal tube and modify the existing slot (1). The slot should be 50 mm (1.97 inch) in length and 28 mm (1.1 inch) in height. The radius on the lower two corners should be 5 mm (.2 inch). The closest edge of the slot should be approximately 1070 mm (42.1 inch) along the frame rail from frame joint (2) marked in the previous illustration.

------ WARNING! ------

Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can kill.

Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's safety practices. Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing zone and general area. Wear correct eye, ear, and body protection. Do not touch live electrical parts.

See American National Standard Z49.1 "Safety in Welding and Cutting" published by the American Welding Society, 2501 N.W. 7th Street, Miami, Florida 33125: OSHA Safety and Health Standards, 29 CRF 1910, available form U.S. Dept. of Labor, Washington, D.C. 20408.

(3) 4P-1555 Disposal Hose.
(4) Weld Bead.
(5) Manufactured Fumes Disposal Tube.

3. Manufactured fumes disposal tube (5) will need to be inserted through the slot so that the 45° tube face is extended approximately one inch from the frame rail. Position the tube at a 45° angle from the frame rail with the 90° tube opening facing toward the center of the machine. Weld the tube in place with weld bead (4) along the top of the tube connecting it to the frame rail.

4. After cooling, paint the fumes disposal tube and welded area.

5. Connect 4P-1555 Disposal Hose (3) to manufactured fumes disposal tube (5). Secure the disposal hose with a hose clamp.

Installation Procedure For The 1088LTC Forwarder:

1. Refer to Installation Procedure 487, 495, 687, and 695 Tree Harvesters, Steps 1 through 7 at the beginning of this article before beginning installation procedure.

(F) 50 ± 5 mm (1.97 ± .20 inch) Radius.
(G) 150 ± 3 mm (5.91 ± .12 inch).
(H) 60 Degrees.

2. Before installation, a tube will need to be manufactured. The tube dimensions are shown in the previous illustration. The tube has an outside diameter of 25 mm (.98 inch) and a wall thickness of 3 mm (.12 inch). The tube can be made from any type of mild weldable steel.

164-9276 Engine End Frame Assembly.

(6) Manufactured Tube.

3. Weld manufactured fumes disposal tube (6) into position as shown in the previous illustration.

4. After the weld cools, paint the fumes disposal tube and welded area.

5. Connect the 4P-1555 Disposal Tube (3) to the manufactured fumes disposal tube. Secure the hose with a hose clamp.

Installation Procedure For The 1088XLC Forwarder:

1. Refer to Installation Procedure 487, 495, 687, and 695 Tree Harvesters, Steps 1 through 7 at the beginning of this article before beginning installation procedure.

(I) 18 mm (.32 inch) Outside Diameter.
(J) 1.5 mm (.06 inch).
(K) 30 degrees.
(L) 180 mm (3.15 inch).

2. Before installation, a tube will need to be manufactured. The tube dimensions are shown in the previous illustration. The dimensions are not critical and the tube can be made from any type of mild weldable steel.

168-7641 Engine End Frame Assembly

(7) Front Frame Rail Edge.
(8) Manufactured Fumes Disposal Tube.

3. Weld manufactured fumes disposal tube (8) to the bottom of the frame rail as shown on the illustration above. The center of the manufactured tube is positioned 757 mm from front frame rail edge (7). The tube is positioned parallel to the front frame rail or 90° to the centerline of the machine. The 90° face of the tube should be flush with the outer edge of the frame rail.

4. After the weld cools, paint the fumes disposal tube and welded area.

5. Connect the breather hose to the manufactured fumes disposal tube. Secure the hose with a hose clamp.
