Usage:
Challenger 35 (8DN, 8RD, ADK),
Challenger 45 (1DR, ABF, 3BK),
Challenger 55 (7DM, 6NN, AEN) Agricultural Tractors
Description of Change: Several changes were implemented to improve reliability of the transmission and coolant temperature sensors. These changes included a switch to a less corrosive solder flux, improved assembly training, and temperature controlled soldering irons. These improvements should reduce the occurrences of false F389, F390, F406, and F407 faults.
Adaptability: The improvements to the 113-8869 Liquid Temperature Sensor and the 113-8819/154-9999 Coolant Temperature Sensors were effective in tractor production in approximately the 3rd quarter of 1999. The improved sensors can be identified by a stamped date code of 01G8 or higher (July 1st 1998 or higher). The date code is located on the hex of the sensor, and is in the following format:
- 01G8 where 01 = 1st day of Month
- G = 7th month of Year = July
- 8 = 199(8)
- G = 7th month of Year = July
Therefore, any sensor with 3rd digit "G" or higher and 4th digit 8, or any with 4th digit "9" or "0" will include the improvements.
