Download Flash Files By Using The Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS) Or SIS Web {1901,1920}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Machines Powered By Electronic Engines

Caterpillar's Service Information System (SIS) is a service information delivery tool. Along with standard product support information, flash files can also be downloaded through SIS. SIS is available for use by Caterpillar distributors, TEPS dealers, and customers. There are two different ways to retrieve information from SIS. Information may be accessed through CD or DVD based SIS, or through the SIS Web. You can subscribe to SIS or SIS Web by calling the Caterpillar Media Logistics Ordering Department at (800) 566-7782. For assistance operating SIS or SIS Web, you may call the SIS Help Desk at (800) 765-0999.

Downloading Flash Files Using CD Or DVD Based SIS

When a user subscribes to CD or DVD based SIS, modem hardware or software is not required. Phone calls via modem do not have to be made. A new CD or a DVD is provided every month with the SIS CD or DVD subscription. The CD or DVD will contain all the flash files that are needed to support the Caterpillar products that are included in your SIS subscription. (The CD or DVD will not contain flash files that were not available at the time the CD or DVD was made.) The CD or DVD can be used on any personal computer that has CD or DVD capabilities.

To down load flash files from CD or DVD based SIS, use the following procedure:

1. Insert the Flash Files CD or DVD into the CD or DVD drive for your computer.

2. View the contents of the drive that is your CD or DVD drive. Select the "Readxref.txt" file in order to view a complete listing of all flash documents that can be used to identify the proper flash file for your application.

3. Select "Winflash" from the "Utilities" menu on the Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET) toolbar.

4. "Winflash" will try to detect an Electronic Control Module (ECM). When an ECM has been detected, the "ECM Selector" window will appear. Select the ECM that you want to download the flash file to. (Machine ECM, Engine ECM, etc.) Select "OK". The "Select Flash File" window will appear.

5. In the "Drives" box, select the CD or DVD drive for your computer.

6. Once the CD or DVD drive is selected, a list of flash files will appear. Select the correct flash file from the list of flash files.

7. Read the information in the "Description" box and verify that you have chosen the correct flash file.

8. Select "Begin Flash" to download the flash file from your computer to the ECM.

Downloading Flash Files Using SIS Web

When a user subscribes to SIS Web, it is necessary to have an OEM connection, or a modem connection and an Internet provider. SIS Web enables the user to access very recently released flash files, since SIS Web is updated daily.

To download flash files through SIS Web, use the following procedure:

1. Go to the SIS Web Home Page.

2. Select "Flash Software Files".

3. Follow the on screen instructions. Place the cursor over the appropriate file number.

8. In the "Drives" box, select the drive and the directory where the flash file was saved to from Step 5.
