--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: In certain situations the 5T-5873 or 8X-0418 Beam Assembly (not serviced), part of 7I-5482 (789B), 143-2040 or 125-6977 (793C) Frame Assemblies may collect water when exposed to heavy rain. This situation is most likely to occur during shipment when the hood assembly remains unprotected from the body canopy assembly. If enough water accumulates in the beam assembly it may enter through the engine exhaust system and damage turbo charger components.
Effective with 789B (7EK681) and 793C (4AR364) Off-Highway Trucks the improved beam assemblies will feature chamfers and holes to allow water drainage. Earlier production 789B (7EK1-680) and 793C (4AR1-363) Off-Highway Trucks should be checked for beam assembly water collection if the machine has been idle and the hood assembly has been unprotected for an extended period of time. A 12.70 mm (.5 in) diameter hole should be drilled through the bottom right hand (platform) side of the beam assembly to allow water drainage. Refer to Illustration.
Adaptable To: Effective with 789B (7EK681) and 793C (4AR364) Off-Highway Trucks. Adaptable to 789B (7EK1-680) and 793C (4AR1-363) Off-Highway Trucks.
Typical view of front and top of beam assembly. Dimensions indicate location for 12.7 mm (.50 in) diameter hole on 5T-5873 or 8X-0418 Beam Assembly (not serviced).
NOTE: Do not drill hole on operator station side of beam assembly.
