Description of Change: An improved message center module is available. The (Message Center) Electronic Control Group has several features that significantly improve the visibility of the display. These include improved LCD glass, anti-reflective coating on the message center lens, anti-reflective coating on the LCD and a new lighting method.
Adaptable To: The new message center 149-2357 (Message Center) Electronic Control Group is a direct replacement for the 6V-6643 and 133-1840 (Message Center) Electronic Control Groups, but will require a harness modification. This modification requires removing the Incandesant Bulb that was used to illuminate the 2x20 text LCD in the old configuration from the harness and replacing it with a 102-8807 Plug Kit Connector (2-pin Deutsch®) and two 8T-8730 Socket Connectors (pins). Connect pin 1 to +24 DCV monitor voltage and pin 2 to LCD lamps(-) pin 3 of the VIMS main module (see Illustration 1.) The new message center will function with the Pre 9.x software and version 2.0 hardware. However the contrast function will only work with applications utilizing 3.0 hardware and 9.x or later software classes.

Sample of old and new configuration.
NOTE: When a new/different VIMS source and configuration software class previous to version 9.3X are installed, the message center is set to a contrast level default of 100%. This makes the display very difficult to view. Contrast adjustment will be required.
NOTE: To gain access to the contrast control through the key pad, enter the service program code for "CON" (contrast), which is "266" then the "OK" key. The message center begins to "scroll" through the contrast settings. The arrow keys are used to raise or lower the contrast setting from 0% to 100% (50% contrast is a typical setting). Press the "OK" key to accept contrast setting and exit adjustment mode.
