Values of fast moving parameters (like engine speed) in the event recorder (snapshot) and the event list may not agree, because of differences in the time at which these values are sampled (read) and stored. The event system samples and stores every 0.25 seconds to provide good resolution (breakdown) in event reports. The event recorder samples and stores every 1.0 second. This is due to memory limitations for stored data on-board. The difference in sampling times may cause a difference between the stored data. Consider the example in Illustration 1. The event list would record an engine speed of 2295 RPM because it exceeded the current 2250 RPM event limit. The event recorder in the example shows an engine speed, of 2260 RPM. The difference in speed is due to the time at which the samples were taken and stored. Because of this time difference the event recorder may sometimes record a value less than the event limit.

NOTE: The data logger operates similar to the event recorder system taking samples every 1.0 second. Due to the sample rate, data logger data and event list data may not agree also.

The function of the event recorder (snapshot) system is to provide a view of all parameters. This provides the service person with a powerful tool to determine the cause(s) of an event. The event list provides a more accurate measure of the maximum or minimum values of the parameter triggering the event. Within the memory capacity constraints of the on-board system, it is not possible to increase the sampling rate of the event recorder (snapshot) system to match that of the event list.
